Spa Body Exfoliation

Spa Body ExfoliationThis is another of my Top 5 Day Spa Treatments. It makes your skin all brand new – the Spa Body Exfoliation.

What Is A Spa Body Exfoliation?

Spa Body exfoliation is not a new concept. A body exfoliation (also known as body polish) is a gentle way of sloughing off the dead skin and all those other nasties on the outside and letting your fresh, clear skin show through. A spa body exfoliation, body polish or a dry brush is highly recommended before a spa body wrap or application of body lotion to gain full benefit of the treatment.

It is an important part of both face and body care. When done correctly, exfoliation leaves the skin feeling smoother and fresher looking. Exfoliation also makes penetration easier for expensive facial products like serums.

A full body exfoliation is an ideal way to prepare your skin for a relaxing, de-stressing massage

How Do You Exfoliate?

There are two ways to exfoliate:

  1. Mechanical Exfoliation
The dead skin cells are physically rubbed off with an abrasive. Examples of mechanical exfoliation include a salt glow, a body scrub that might use sugar or coffee grounds, or skin brushing. On the face, mechanical exfoliation ranges from gentle scrubs to more aggressive procedures like microdermabrasion.
  2. Chemical Exfoliation
Enzymes, alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) or betahydroxy acids (BHAS) loosen the glue-like substance that holds the cells together, allowing them to slough away. Facial peels are a form of chemical exfoliation. They can either be very gentle or very aggressive, depending on how strong the peel is. Body treatments might use mild chemical exfoliants like pineapple enzymes.

Why Is A Spa Body Exfoliation Important?

Your skin is constantly generating new skin cells at the lower layer (the dermis) and sending them to the surface (the epidermis). Approximately every 20 days you have a complete new skin.

As the cells rise to the surface they gradually die and become filled with keratin (a strong protein). These skin cells are essential because they give our skin its protective quality. But they are constantly sloughing off to make way for younger cells. So to show your brand new skin  you need to regular exfoliate your skin.

As we age the process of cell turnover slows down. Cells start to pile up unevenly on the skin’s surface, giving it a dry, rough, dull appearance.

A Spa Body Exfoliation is great for you because it removes those cells that are clinging on, revealing the fresher, younger skin cells below.

Benefits Of Spa Body Exfoliation?

There are lots of great benefits for you in this beautiful Spa Treatment. They include:

  • loosening and removing dead skin cells
  • stimulating the blood and lymph circulation
  • leaving the skin more supple and radiant
  • leaving the body invigorated and rejuvenated with a glow
  • General body exfoliation helps to develop healthy skin

Spa Body Exfoliations are good for men too!!

How Often Should You Exfoliate?

It is possible to overexfoliate, especially on the delicate skin of the face, but once to twice per week a thorough body exfoliation will leave your skin healthy and glowing

  • You can use a body scrub once or twice a week with no problem
  • Body brushing every morning is a gentle way to exfoliate — and wake up!
  • Exfoliation is part of good skin care, but don’t overdo it

Together with a Spa Body Mask the Spa Body Exfoliation is a great treatment for your body. You will look (and feel) like a brand new person.

One of my favorite treatments at the spa. My skin feels very very soft after this. I don’t like the chemical peels, especially for the face, since then you have to be really careful in the sun.

I agree Rita. An exfoliation is a beautiful treatment. And it’s a good reminder that you have to be careful with the sun after an enzyme or chemical peel, thanks for that.

To be honest, I’ve never fancied a chemical exfoliation – like a facial peel. But I love mechanical exfoliation. I use a gentle scrub on my face 3 times a week after swimming – in the hope it gets rid of some of the chlorine!
A full body salt glow sounds wonderful :)

I love the spa body exfoliation. It’s a very good treatment that always guarantees you come out of the spa with silky smooth skin! Althought it may be costly at times, it’s definitely worth it.

    Regards
    Wilson
